Girl Scouts in Paris Introduce New “Go Green” Environmental Awareness Badge

PARIS, FRANCE, (March 17, 2014) – To cap off Girl Scout Week 2014 – a time set aside to celebrate the founding of Girl Scouts of America – USA Girl Scouts in Paris has launched a new Go Green Badge and is inviting Girl Scouts around the world to join them in taking their Go Green Pledge

Created by Paris Senior/Ambassador Troop 7 as an extension of the Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary Forever Green Project, sisters Alix and Juliette Pouchol led their troop in organizing last years’ Juliette Gordon Low celebration (an annual Girl Scout tradition celebrating the birth of Girl Scout Founder, Juliette Low), where they creatively taught younger Paris-area Scouts how to reuse, reduce, recycle and repurpose. From the success of that event, the nationally earned Go Green Badge program was born. Read more…

Girl Scouts in Paris Give Back to the Community

This past holiday season, for the second year in a row, Paris Girl Scouts Junior Troop 35 decided to address sanitation and hygiene as a service project.  What most movies and tourism ads don’t show is that there are over 50,000 homeless or near-homeless people living in Paris alone.  While The City of Paris offers free municipal showers where the needy can go to clean up, clients must come with their own toiletry items- items that many are not able to afford to buy.  Junior Troop 35 chose to donate toiletry kits containing soap, shampoo, toothpaste and other basics to an agency that services this underprivileged community in Paris. In March weekend, Girl Scouts in Paris celebrated with our “Star-Spangled” SongFest 2O13. Hosted by Cadette Troop 4, each troop picked a classic American song to perform. There were old-time favorites like “Take Me Out to The Ballgame”, a little something for the baby-boomers (“California Dreamin’”) and even a bit of nostalgia for us Gen X’ers.

Camp In: Winter Carnival!

What an appropriate theme:  Winter Carnival!  Postponed due to… snow. How ironic.  Rescheduled and a huge success! The snow on the ground added ambiance to the winter Camp In.  Here are a few highlights from event organizer Erin Locke & Junior Troop 19.

Camp In 2013 took place on February 9-10, 2013, at the Centre National de Formation de Jambville, Scouts et Guides de France.  After being cancelled on January 19th because of a large snowstorm we were able to reschedule the event for February.

Sixty-seven Girl Scouts and 29 Adult Volunteers from 10 troops of USAGSO-Paris attended this annual event.  We had six Junior Troops, three Cadette Troops and one Senior Troop attend. Seventy-six girls and adults enjoyed spending the night in our “Camp In” facilities – the Orangerie and the Grande Ferme. Read more…
