This past holiday season, for the second year in a row, Paris Girl Scouts Junior Troop 35 decided to address sanitation and hygiene as a service project. What most movies and tourism ads don’t show is that there are over 50,000 homeless or near-homeless people living in Paris alone. While The City of Paris offers free municipal showers where the needy can go to clean up, clients must come with their own toiletry items- items that many are not able to afford to buy. During the summer of 2012, the Alcoa Foundation provided a grant to expand the Girl Scouts 100th anniversary Take Action Project Girl Scouts Forever Green to take it globally to 20 countries. Girl Scouts in Paris spent a gorgeous Indian Summer afternoon at Les Fermes de Gally, a local farm 20 minutes outside of Paris. The group picked apples, pumpkins and other seasonal treats, as well as raced wheelbarrows, went on a Nature Scavenger Hunt and enjoyed celebrating autumn with other USAGSO-Paris families. On September 21st, 2013, USA Girl Scouts Overseas – Paris, held one of our most successful Open House events to date. The event was broken into 2 sessions, one for Daisies and Brownies, and the other for Juniors and above. With help from current Girl Scouts of all levels, guests and their parents were able to make swaps, sing songs, and have a taste of what Girl Scouting in Paris is all about. Since our “Back to Troop” season started, we’ve placed over 60 new girls and 15 new Adult Volunteers. #icantwaitto discover fun, friendship, and the power of girls working together! In March weekend, Girl Scouts in Paris celebrated with our “Star-Spangled” SongFest 2O13. Hosted by Cadette Troop 4, each troop picked a classic American song to perform. There were old-time favorites like “Take Me Out to The Ballgame”, a little something for the baby-boomers (“California Dreamin’”) and even a bit of nostalgia for us Gen X’ers.
